In Oshada's Words: Musings about all things spiritual
As we move into 2016 I find it the perfect time to look back at the last year to see where I have been. I look at the roads I have travelled, the choices I've made, the joys and sorrows I've experienced, as well as the success and failure I have enjoyed, and endured. I re-evaluate the different relationships in my life. I take the time to see which ones are running smoothly, and which ones have been bumpy. I also look at those that no longer seem to be working.
The holidays are here. Celebration and commercialism are partners at this time of year. Expectations and grief are magnified. Joy is tenuous. We can feel “less than” when we are overwhelmed by the happiness we imagine others are enjoying. The magic or sorrow of childhood beliefs can be an open program running through our minds. Memories of years gone by, people who are no longer in our lives, and changing circumstances drift though our thoughts whether we want them to or not.
We cannot help but remember the past. For some it is a joyful looking back. For others there is too much pain so we turn our heads away and refuse to look. Whatever our culture, religion or our spiritual leanings, the holidays are an emotional time.
