When we meditate we open the door to a sacred realm that lives within us. We consciously remove ourselves from the world of circumstances and expectations. For a few moments we leave behind the physical sphere that demands us to participate in making a living, to-do lists, caring for others, as well as anxiety and pain.
In meditation we enter into the timeless dimension of our spiritual essence. Here we can come to know ourselves in a deeper and profound way. From this vantage point we are able to rest our wearied hearts. We can release and transform our troubles. We are able to look at our lives from a different vantage point and receive the spiritual help that we need.
The more practice we have with meditating, the easier it becomes to silence our chattering minds, and separate from the endless stream of situations that govern our daily lives. If we meditate on a regular basis we learn how to effortlessly shift our consciousness when we sit quietly and close our eyes to go within.
I could not live without this respite in my day. I need to spend time apart, apart from the world of constant demands, pretty much every day. When I meditate I am able to create balance between my demanding outer life and my innermost being. As a psychic medium it is important to spend regular time in silence with my spiritual guides and teachers. This allows me to develop my psychic and spiritual abilities in order to do the work I do.
When I meditate I develop my psychic and spiritual muscles. It is the same idea as being an athlete who spends time each day developing muscle strength through exercise. In order to do the work I do, I have to elevate my vibrational field in order to reach out to the spirits that communicate through me. Not only do I have to develop my psychic muscles, but I need to strengthen my spiritual capacity for being in an elevated transcendent state.
People ask me if I get tired doing readings and healing work. Even though I have to pace myself, I rarely get tired. That is because, through years of practice, I am able to raise my spiritual vibration to link in with the spirits that work with me. My good and trusted spirit guides are working through me to do readings and healings. I am literally acting as a medium, a channel, for them to work through. I make myself available but they do the heavy lifting!
It’s not very different from being an athlete from Boston who plans to run a marathon in Denver. The runner would have to go to Denver ahead of time to prepare for the race. Boston is at sea level and Denver is the mile high city. The athlete would have to train in Denver to develop their lung capacity and endurance. In a similar way meditation helps me to develop my spiritual staying power.
Each of us plays many roles and has countless obligations. In meditation we can step back and look at the big picture of our lives. In this suspended space we raise our spiritual vibration and lower our physical heart rate and blood pressure. In so doing we temporarily step outside our problems in order to change our viewpoint. In this altered state of consciousness we can look at our reaction to life, and the challenges it presents us with, with greater perspective.
Meditation is an opportunity to look at our internal operating system. It gives us the option to close down and delete the programs that are no longer useful or working for us. Meditation is a form of rebooting ourselves. Just as we need to refresh a page on our devices, we need to refresh our own internal drives on a regular basis.
If it were a hot summer day and a friend were to offer us a cool refreshing glass of water, we wouldn’t hesitate to accept it. We might even sit down for a moment to press the cold glass up against our forehead, to perhaps put it up against the back of our neck to allow our overheated body to cool down. We would enjoy the cool water as it went down our throat to replenish our body. Such an encounter would be a refuge from the heat.
Our innermost being offers us a glass of cool water every time we go within to meditate. Here in this harbor we have an opportunity to turn the temperature down on all the issues that continually gain momentum in our lives. In this time-out, we can remove all the irons we have in the fire. We can re-evaluate our commitments. We can look at where we are necessary, where our involvement is important. We can see with clearer eyes and an inner knowing what we need to do next. Perhaps we can even pull back a little bit and trust the universe to step in and help us.
